When You Need Anesthesia

Anesthesia Keeps You Safe and Comfortable During Surgery

Our anesthesia team will be there by your side to relieve pain, keeping you comfortable and safe

Almost every surgery requires the use of medicine and monitoring to keep you safe and pain-free. This is called anesthesia. When you need anesthesia at Lehigh Valley Hospital, our anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists become part of your surgery team, caring for you before, during and after surgery.

Today you can choose from many different types of anesthesia, and we have the most experienced anesthesiologists in the region to guide you.

If your surgery is minor, you may only need a mild form of anesthesia that blocks sensation in one small part of the body.

For more complex procedures, your options include:

  • a regional anesthesia such as a spinal or epidural
  • general anesthesia to make you completely unaware of sensation.

Whatever option is best for you, your anesthesiologist and nurse anesthetist will work hand-in-hand to ensure your comfort. Our anesthesiology program is one of the largest and busiest in Pennsylvania, providing patient safety and comfort for nearly 45,000 procedures each year.
